Danny 21st October 2020

Alright Treacle? Tash, although we only knew one another a year it seems like so much longer. We met in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia. We both ended up in the same hostel picking cherry tomatoes for pennies! I couldn’t be happier I have met you when I did. I think the first time we spoke you were more than likely checking out what food was on offer, checking out the communal food shelf, maybe accidentally nicking someone’s food for dinner! We were chatting about Irish and English slang and got on to pet names and so the term of endearment ‘treacle’ was coined! “Alright Treacle?” Every greeting, without fail I would put on your accent. And you’d practice your Irish accent on me too. From cherry tomatoes, to that day zucchini picking to strawberry planting to eventually moving hostels for better buck, where you ended up weeding the sweet potato fields of Bundy! One of my funniest memories of you is one of the days we were planting strawberries and you just couldn’t be bothered. While we were in the trenches, on our hands and knees, sprinklers spraying full blast in our faces, I turned around mid planting to see you sat down, chilling, having a chat, giving out about your trench foot. You always knew not to take things so seriously. I loved coming home from work having not seen you for the day to catch up on each others day at the farm. I’d always look out for your flip flops in the bathroom to see if we’d be showering in the cubicles next to one another so we could have a shower sing along, blaring some Maroon 5, Britney or some Spice Girls tune. Glam squad was in full swing when you, Chlöe and I would be getting ready for drinks in the local Bundy pub, hogging the whole mirror. I’m beyond happy that we’ve stayed in such close contact since you left to head home. Your happy face never failed to make my day. So lucky to have gotten to visit you in London after Christmas too. You became a rock for me, a grounding energy as well as an inspiration. It was so effortless being your friend and so much love was always felt. You’re an absolute angel Tash. I love you more than words can describe and I am honoured to have had you as one of my closest friends over the past year. Forever and ever in my heart. Eternal love, Danny boy x
